Lights, Camera, Action!

Lights, Camera, Action! is a 4D special effects show located in the New York area of Universal Studios Beijing. The show is hosted by two of the world’s most acclaimed filmmakers, Steven Spielberg and Zhang Yimou.

The pre-show presentation is a Planet C Studios production that spans three large screens and was filmed on the largest Universal Sound Stage in Hollywood. Planet C developed, cast, produced and completed the editorial and delivery of the show, seeing it all the way to integration on-site in Beijing.  In the pre-show, Spielberg and Yimou demonstrate the art and magic of filmmaking as they transition effortlessly from an alien planet to a magical forest to the Great Wall of China…all inside a sound stage.

The Main Show invites guests into a seaside boat house to experience a super typhoon with immersive practical and digital effects. Planet C filmed and produced original media of a Chinese city skyline that serves as the boathouse backdrop projected onto a movie theater sized screen. As the storm gains power, guests see the effects of the storm projected on the screen outside the dock windows. The media had to be perfectly synced with the practical effects inside the boat house, including wind, water, fire, and electrical sparks, that bring the typhoon to life for guests and show them how a sound stage can be used to shoot incredible scenes for film and television production.
